Mallorca, Culture, Tradition and Natural Beauty

The challenge of Mallorca for the visitor is what to choose, since its cultural, sports and gastronomic offer is extensive and varied.

There are many activities and places of interest to do outstanding for their great beauty and nature.

With more than 500 kilometers of coastline, Mallorca is known internationally for its warm climate and wonderful beaches. The island of Mallorca is located in the Mediterranean Sea, 180 kilometers from the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

It is part of the archipelago of the Balearic Islands also composed of Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera. Thanks to its strategic location in the Mediterranean, Mallorca has historically been a key point where a multitude of peoples and cultures have been legacy.

You can visit the Sierra de Tramontana which was declared a "World Heritage Site" in 2011. The mountain range has unique cliffs in Spain. In them, the tourist finds spectacular landscapes such as Sóller, a beautiful town full of modernist buildings whose characteristic train offers a very pleasant activity to get to know the area.

Mallorca also has a mountain area that hides a large number of caves, the most popular are the Cuevas del Drach: A route of more than 1,000 meters composed of several rooms with lakes that reflect the beauty of the stalactites.

If we have to choose a single cove near Manacor that would be Cala Varques. Its access is only possible from the sea or by making a rural route. The charm of this cove of 70 meters, lies in its crystal-clear waters and the feeling that time has not passed since urbanistically it has not changed yielding to mass tourism.

The island has endless evocative corners, including Cala Figuera.

These  pictures  fishing villages of clear houses and gardens with their characteristic palm trees, hibiscus and almond trees  that has preserved the aesthetics of a traditional Balearic Island.

Gastronomy and Culture

The gastronomic offer on the island is very rich.

The ensaïmada is the star product of Majorcan confectionery, with a protected geographical indication since 2003. Its characteristic spiral shape, golden color and firm texture, thanks to the lard with which it is prepared, make it unmistakable. They are available in cafes, patisseries and bakeries. They can be eaten for breakfast or a snack, but it is characteristic that they are prepared in large sizes for special celebrations.

Another of the most identifying products of Mallorca is the sobrassada, made with pork, consumed with peasant bread and constitutes one of the most requested gifts by visitors.

As for culture, the Cathedral of Mallorca, also known as La Seu, is the most emblematic artistic heritage of the Balearic Islands. Its largest rose window is the largest in the world among Gothic cathedrals, on February 2 and November 11 you can enjoy a peculiar light phenomenon as the sunlight passes through the largest rose window and its reflection is projected on the front wall  giving rise to two rosettes: one of glass and the other one of light.
